The Creative Bookworm
Downtown Langley's independent bookstore since 1994: rooms of used books, new titles, vinyl, puzzles and bookish gifts, with late opening on Thursdays.

A good used bookstore is somewhere you lose an hour on purpose. The Creative Bookworm has been that place in downtown Langley since 1994, tucked into a red-brick storefront on Douglas Crescent with flower boxes under the windows.
It’s laid out in rooms and sections, with used books sorted by genre and then alphabetically, which makes real browsing possible. New books sit alongside them, and there’s a kids’ corner, new and used vinyl, jigsaw puzzles, miniature book-nook building kits, and the bookish extras: socks, cards, bookmarks, totes and journals. Used paperbacks are cheap. One we looked up was $5.99, against $12.99 new.
New owners took over on June 1, 2026. Reviews before and since say the same things: easy to lose time in, and staff who hand you a book you didn’t know you wanted. Lately, people also mention the gatherings. There’s an after-hours reading club, and the Craft and Yap Club runs reading, craft and board-game meetups there.
A few practical things:
- Thursday is late night, open until 9. The rest of the week it’s Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 6, and it’s closed Sunday and Monday.
- Before you make a trip for one title, check the online catalogue. It shows whether a book is in the store or would need a special order.
- Selling records? Call ahead (778-278-2008), and note that book credit can’t be spent on records.
- TransLink once named it one of the region’s transit-friendly bookstores, so you can easily leave the car at home.
Spending the afternoon downtown? Our Langley City guide and the mural walk pair well with a bag of books. More independents are on Shop Local.
