Miniature cakes and tiramisu

Lieto is the kind of café you pick when you want to sit and talk for an hour. The room is bright and calm, with long wooden tables and big windows, and the cake case by the door is hard to walk past. The name is Italian for “happy”, which suits a place built around dessert.

What to order

  • Tiramisu: the one that placed in Vancouver Foodster’s 2024 Tiramisu Challenge (first in the People’s Choice vote and third with the judges). It was $8.99 on their delivery menu when we checked
  • Miniature cakes: sweet potato, chocolate ganache, Earl Grey and blueberry yogurt are regulars, and they’re sized for one
  • Macarons: Earl Grey, matcha and pistachio among them
  • Coffee: Spanish lattes, flat whites and other espresso drinks
  • Something savoury: sandwiches and light lunches if you need more than cake

Want a whole cake? The whole strawberry cake needs a day’s notice.

Who’s behind it

Lieto is family-owned and opened on September 1, 2023, in the spot at 72 Avenue and 208 Street. When it opened, the café said its baking was done in-house every day.
