Kids grow out of skates about as fast as you can lace them. Sports Replay was built around that problem. The Smith family opened it in 2003 to make sport cheaper to play, and they still sell new and used equipment on the same floor.
What’s on the racks
Hockey takes up a lot of the room. There are skates, sticks, gloves, helmets and goalie gear, and the glove wall alone is worth a look. You’ll also find baseball and softball bats and gloves, lacrosse and ringette equipment, disc golf, and in winter, skis, snowboards, boots and helmets. They sell online too, with pickup at the store.
The point of the place is that a family can kit out a first-year player without paying full price for every piece, then trade that gear in when the kid moves up a size.
How trade-ins work
Bring in gear that’s in decent shape, and they’ll offer store credit or take it on consignment. No appointment is needed. The shop suggests coming midweek, though, because assessments take longer on a busy Saturday. Whether they take it depends on condition and on what they already have in stock.
Good to know
They’re open Monday to Friday 10 to 6 and Saturday 9:30 to 5:30, and closed Sundays. Holiday hours vary, so check their site before a long weekend. The shop is on the south side of the Bypass, just west of the railway tracks and next to Langley Toyota. Call 604-533-2221 or email [email protected].
David and Susan Smith own the shop. Reviewers often mention the patience staff show when fitting a nervous six-year-old for their first pair of skates, and say they’re good at tracking down a size that isn’t on the shelf.
