Who do you call when a toilet backs up into the tub? That was one of the jobs on Straight Up Mechanical’s portfolio page in September, along with a condo hot-water main with a pinhole leak and a failed backflow device caught during annual testing. It’s a plumbing company, so the list is practical, and a lot of it is drains.
What they do
- Drains: snaking and hydro jetting, plus a camera inspection afterwards to confirm the line is actually clear. Their pipe locator can trace a line from the surface.
- Water heaters: repairs and servicing, including tankless units. A July 2026 post describes a Langley restaurant whose tankless heater failed at the heat exchanger; they sourced a warranty part, which arrived the next day, and had it back running.
- Backflow testing: the annual test many commercial buildings need, with the paperwork filed for you.
- Residential and commercial plumbing, and gas work (their techs are Red Seal plumbers and Gas Fitter B certified, per their site).
Where Langley fits
The company’s own pages say “Vancouver and the Lower Mainland” more often than “Langley”, and they list service areas from Burnaby to Abbotsford. But Straight Up Mechanical Ltd. is run from Langley: the office is on 88th East Avenue, and it’s a Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce member. Their portfolio includes Langley jobs, among them an apartment toilet that wasn’t secured to the floor and a commercial kitchen.
The owners
Nick Perry is from New Zealand, started in plumbing in the UK in 2006 and moved to Canada in 2014; he handles finances and business development. Willem Smolders is a Vancouver native who began a plumbing apprenticeship while still in Grade 12, in 2012, and earned his Red Seal by 23. He runs operations and client relations.

Dial the emergency line for anything that can’t wait. For a non-urgent quote, use the number or the contact form on their site. If you run a restaurant or manage a building, ask about annual backflow testing and their maintenance plans.
