Five things to know about The Gardening Circle

1. It’s the place for house numbers. One whole wall is black metal house numbers, hooks, brackets and mailboxes. If your house number has peeled off the siding, this is the easy fix, and it’s a lot nicer than the hardware-store version.

2. It isn’t a nursery. You won’t find flats of annuals here. It’s everything around the plants: planters, garden figures, wind ornaments, birdhouses (some made locally), candles, and animal-themed gifts for the person who has everything.

3. Christmas comes early, and it comes big. By late September, the shop already had themed trees up and covered in woodland animals, plaid and gnomes. If you add to a collection of ornaments every year, put it on the list. It’s open every day, 10 to 6.

4. A Cranberry Festival brought it here. The Gardening Circle started in 2003 on Cambie Street in Vancouver. Then-owner Abby Palmer visited the 2005 Fort Langley Cranberry Festival, liked the village, and moved the shop out in February 2006. The Langley Advance wrote it up the next summer. A few years later the shop opened The Happy Kitchen as a sister store next door.

5. It’s still independent. Angela Gauthier owns and runs it now. The shop walks in the Fort Langley May Day parade, and VanDusen Botanical Garden members get a discount here.

Finding it: it’s at 9185 Glover Road, in the heart of the village. Some old signage online says 9193, but 9185 is current. Call 604-888-8804. For a whole day out, see our Fort Langley village guide, and find more local shops on Shop Local.
