The Langley Senior Resources Society, usually shortened to LSRS, is the main seniors’ centre for the City and Township of Langley. Its site says it began in 1982 and is a non-profit charity, supported by a large team of volunteers. Programs are for people 50 and over, and “everyone is welcome”.
What goes on there
The Society’s site lists recreation, fitness and social programs, health and wellness clinics, social groups and education, and community services meant to help people stay independent at home. There is also a lounge and library, a hall you can rent, the Creekside Café (with meals to go and catering), and the Tuk Shop Thrift Boutique, which takes donations. The Society also runs programs in Fort Langley and in Aldergrove, where its page mentions Aldergrove Heritage Hall at 3015 273 Street.
The Society’s monthly guide, In the Loop, lists what’s on. You can pick it up at the centre or download it from the website.
The Adult Day Program
LSRS runs an Adult Day Program at a second location for adults with physical or cognitive limitations. The site describes recreation, caregiver support groups, health care, meals and hydrosound bathing. It says the program is funded mainly by Fraser Health, with private-pay options too. Call the number above to ask about a spot.
Membership
The Society’s site gives the membership fee as $67 a year including GST, running January to December. Non-residents of Langley can join, and some programs need a membership. Subsidies may be available for low-income seniors, so ask at the front desk or call 604-530-3020, extension 0.
Volunteering
LSRS lists volunteer roles such as program help, greeting, kitchen support, office work, events, driving and friendly visiting. The application goes through an online form or a paper copy at the centre, followed by a chat with the volunteer coordinator, a criminal record check, references and an orientation. More ideas are on our volunteering page.
Other places for seniors’ activities
- The City of Langley has a senior services page. It mentions the Langley Seniors Community Action Table, a group the City works with on housing, transportation, and social and recreation programs for older adults.
- The Township of Langley lists its community and recreation centres, including Aldergrove, George Preston, W.C. Blair, salishan Place by the River and Walnut Grove. See our pages for George Preston, W.C. Blair, Walnut Grove and Aldergrove.
- The Timms Community Centre in the City is another place to ask about drop-ins.
Check the Township’s pages directly for current seniors’ drop-ins and any pass for adults 50 and over, as we haven’t confirmed those details. For events around town, see our events page.
