Getting Around Aldergrove: Buses, the Fraser Highway Commute, the Border and Parking

Aldergrove has three bus routes that each do one job, no SkyTrain, a Fraser Highway commute west and a border crossing at 264 Street. Test your own trip: the scheduled bus to Surrey Central alone takes 1 hour 43 minutes.

Aldergrove is a long way from the rest of the region, and the choices here are blunt. One road leads west (Fraser Highway, and Highway 1 once you climb onto it at 264 Street), one leads to Abbotsford, and one leads to the border. Three bus routes each cover one of those jobs. All the bus details below were checked on 30 October 2026 against timetables that took effect on 7 September.

Buses: which one does what

Route Where it goes Weekday peak Weekday off-peak Weekends
TransLink 503 Aldergrove, Langley Centre, King George and Surrey Central; also loops through north and south residential Aldergrove Uneven: westbound morning departures from 272 St and Fraser Hwy have gaps of 6 to 20 minutes About every 30 minutes at midday; evenings vary Roughly every 20 to 30 minutes for much of the day, with some longer gaps
TransLink 556 (new 7 Sept 2026) Langley Centre to the Gloucester industrial area via 56 Avenue Every 30 minutes in two peak windows No midday or evening service No service
BC Transit 21 / 21A 272 St and Fraser Hwy to Highstreet, Clearbrook and Bourquin Exchange in Abbotsford Eastbound morning: 06:30, 07:15, 08:00, 08:45 Irregular, roughly 45 to 90 minutes Saturday 60 to 100 minutes; Sunday 60 to 95

Those frequencies describe the Aldergrove end of each route, not the more frequent overlapping service farther west. They’re our calculations from the published timetables, not a promised clock-face frequency.

The 556 in detail. From Langley Centre, buses run roughly 05:15 to 08:15 and 14:45 to 17:45. From Gloucester, they run roughly 06:00 to 09:00 and 15:30 to 18:30. If your shift ends later, you’ll need a different plan. Check how far the stop is from your workplace door too.

The 21 in detail. It’s the link for Abbotsford jobs, shopping and appointments. One weekday trip leaves 272 St and Fraser Hwy at 08:00 and reaches Highstreet at 08:17, Clearbrook at 08:29 and Bourquin Exchange at 08:36. TransLink and BC Transit are separate agencies, so check each one’s fare rules rather than assuming one fare covers the whole trip.

The commute west

A weekday example from the official timetable: the 503 leaving 272 St and Fraser Hwy at 07:00 reaches Langley Centre at 07:38 and Surrey Central at 08:43. That’s 38 minutes and 1 hour 43 minutes on the bus alone, before walking, waiting or the SkyTrain leg to Vancouver.

By car, route planners give these estimates from a generic Aldergrove point. They assume free-flowing traffic:

Destination Distance and time
Surrey Central Station 33.5 km, 27 minutes
King George Station (SkyTrain) about 34 km, 27 minutes
Downtown Vancouver (generic point) 58.6 km, 47 minutes
Abbotsford 19.2 km, 22 minutes
Abbotsford Airport about 13 km, 15 minutes

These aren’t observed commute times. We couldn’t find a verified peak-hour range, so before you budget a daily drive, test your exact address and arrival time on a few ordinary weekdays, in both directions.

SkyTrain and park-and-ride

There’s no SkyTrain station in Aldergrove. The existing line’s eastern end is King George in Surrey. The Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension will reach Langley City Centre (203 Street and Industrial Avenue) with a stop at Willowbrook near 196 Street and Fraser Highway. The province’s 15 September 2026 update keeps a 2029 opening target. No funded extension to Aldergrove has been announced, so getting to that station will still mean a bus or a drive. See the Langley-wide getting around guide.

The 264 Street interchange project includes a planned mobility hub with 180-plus parking spaces and a bus loop, but it isn’t built. For an existing park-and-ride, TransLink’s park-and-ride directory lists Carvolth Exchange; we haven’t measured an Aldergrove-to-Carvolth commute.

Driving: Fraser Highway, 264 Street and construction

Fraser Highway is the east-west road through town. The Township finished widening the 24300 to 24600 block in May 2026, with four lanes, paths and intersection work; that doesn’t mean the whole route to 264 Street is widened.

264 Street (Highway 13) connects the Highway 1 interchange to the border. The Province is rebuilding the Highway 1 and 264 Street interchange as a diverging-diamond interchange. Traffic moved onto the new west bridge on 29 August 2026 and the old structure closed for demolition. The project page targets 2027 for completion. Questions go to the project team at [email protected] or 604-527-2221. For current local road work, see Langley road closures and the Township’s traffic impacts page.

The border crossing

The Aldergrove-Lynden crossing is at 264 Street (Highway 13) and 0 Avenue. For this and the other nearby crossings, see U.S. border crossings near Langley.

New hours on 1 November 2026. The CBSA notice of 9 October 2026 sets the Canadian side's traveller and commercial hours at Aldergrove to 09:00 to 01:00 Pacific Time from 1 November 2026 to 14 March 2027, tied to the seasonal clock difference with Washington. The U.S. listing for Lynden uses 08:00 to midnight local Washington time. Check the direction you're travelling and which clock the hours use, and look at the live CBSA wait times before you go. Published hours never promise a short queue.

Walking and cycling

From 272 St and Fraser Hwy, the community centre at 27032 Fraser Hwy is roughly a 5 minute walk and FreshCo at 27566 Fraser Hwy about 10 minutes. Those are our estimates from the street grid, not mapped routes. The Township’s cycling and trails page links its cycling map. We couldn’t confirm a continuous protected bike route from every residential pocket to Gloucester or Langley City, so check your own route.

Parking in Aldergrove

We found no Aldergrove-wide parking-occupancy study or residential permit zone, so read the posted signs on your block and check your home or strata’s stall allocation.

  • RVs and trailers. An attached RV or trailer can be parked on a street for a maximum of 48 hours per calendar year, with no residential occupancy. The general limit for a vehicle in one street spot is 72 hours where parking is otherwise allowed. Front-driveway RV storage in residential zones has a seasonal exception from 1 April to 30 September, subject to setbacks and other requirements, so don’t assume October storage is allowed. Details are on the Township’s parking regulations page; the Langley-wide parking guide covers the rest.
  • Gloucester trucks. The Township runs a pilot where commercial vehicles may park at designated signed locations at all hours for up to 72 hours. Council continued Phase 1 on 29 June 2026 and held Phase 2 until existing capacity is used more. Questions: [email protected]. The pilot doesn’t apply to an ordinary residential street.
  • The community centre. Use the overflow parking map on the facility page for waterpark sessions and arena events.
  • Schools. We have no measured school-by-school parking shortage. Look at pickup conditions during the real dismissal period. The Township lists traffic calming already done on 32 Avenue in front of Parkside.

Road-safety requests and bylaw concerns go through the Township’s report a problem page; transit feedback goes to TransLink or BC Transit.

Questions people ask about Aldergrove

Which bus goes west from Aldergrove?
TransLink route 503 links Aldergrove with Langley Centre and the SkyTrain stations in Surrey. Gaps in the timetable of 7 September 2026 vary: westbound morning trips from 272 Street and Fraser Highway are 6 to 20 minutes apart, midday is about every 30 minutes, and weekends are roughly every 20 to 30 minutes with some longer gaps. Check the exact stop and direction.
Can I take a bus from Aldergrove to Abbotsford?
Yes. BC Transit routes 21 and 21A run from 272 Street and Fraser Highway to Highstreet, Clearbrook and Bourquin Exchange. One weekday trip leaves at 08:00, reaches Highstreet at 08:17, Clearbrook at 08:29 and Bourquin at 08:36. Midday gaps are roughly 45 to 90 minutes and weekends 60 to 100, so plan the return trip too, and check each agency’s fares.
Can I get to Gloucester by bus?
Only at weekday peaks. The new TransLink 556, which started on 7 September 2026, links Langley Centre and Gloucester every 30 minutes in the morning and afternoon peak windows, with no midday, evening or weekend service. There’s no all-day bus from downtown Aldergrove to Gloucester.
Is SkyTrain coming to Aldergrove?
No funded extension to Aldergrove exists. The Surrey-Langley SkyTrain will end at Langley City Centre (203 Street and Industrial Avenue), with a station near 196 Street and Fraser Highway at Willowbrook. A September 2026 provincial update kept a 2029 target.
How long is the drive to Vancouver?
A route planner estimates 58.6 km and 47 minutes with no traffic, but that is a generic endpoint, not a downtown office at 8 a.m. Surrey Central is estimated at 33.5 km and 27 minutes. Treat both as best cases and test your real trip on several weekdays.
Is the Aldergrove border crossing open 24 hours?
No. The Canada Border Services Agency’s notice of 9 October 2026 sets Canadian hours at Aldergrove to 09:00 to 01:00 Pacific Time from 1 November 2026 to 14 March 2027. The U.S. listing for Lynden uses 08:00 to midnight local Washington time. Check live wait times, not just hours.
When will the 264 Street interchange be finished?
The provincial project page targets 2027. Traffic was moved onto the new west bridge at the end of August 2026 and the old structure was closed for demolition. A mobility hub with 180-plus parking spaces and a bus loop is planned as part of the project but is not open.
Can I park an RV on the street in Aldergrove?
Barely. The Township allows an attached RV or trailer on a street for a maximum of 48 hours per calendar year, with no residential occupancy, and the general limit for any vehicle in one spot is 72 hours where parking is otherwise allowed. Check the Township’s parking regulations page for your property.
