Two school “families” cover Aldergrove. In town, Parkside Centennial or Shortreed Elementary leads to Betty Gilbert Middle and then Aldergrove Community Secondary. On the rural side, North Otter, Wix-Brown or Peterson Road Elementary lead to D.W. Poppy Secondary. Which one a child gets depends on the address, so check the district’s locator before you make an offer or sign a lease.
Check the address first. Use the SD35 catchment maps and school locator. A school down the street isn't necessarily the assigned school, and Fraser Highway isn't a guaranteed boundary. For registration steps, see the Langley-wide schools guide and our school district page.
Public schools serving Aldergrove
Enrolment is the Ministry of Education’s 30 September 2025 count for the 2025/26 school year. Capacity and portable details come from the district’s June 2024 Long Range Facilities Plan, so they’re older and shouldn’t be turned into a current “percent full” figure.

Each school’s Ministry profile (linked in our sources) has its own enrolment chart and contextual data. The Fraser Institute publishes a separate school ranking tool with its own methodology, at compareschoolrankings.org. It’s one resource, not an assessment from us; we don’t rank schools.
Capacity, portables and what’s planned
In September 2025, Parkside (522), Shortreed (474) and Betty Gilbert (489) all had more students than the capacity figures in the June 2024 plan. The reference dates and portable arrangements differ, so don’t rely on any single percentage. Ask the district what placement looks like for your address, and ask the school how rooms are currently arranged.
Requested, not funded. The district's June 2026 major capital request for 2027/28 asks for an eight-classroom modular addition at Betty Gilbert ($12 million) and a gym addition ($5.45 million). A request isn't a funding approval. We haven't found a confirmed start date, opening date or a newly funded Aldergrove school.
French immersion and other programmes
The district’s choice-programme information for 2027/28, opened in October 2026, lists late immersion at Alex Hope and Noel Booth and early immersion at Belmont and James Kennedy. Older descriptions that place late immersion at Betty Gilbert are out of date. These programmes need a separate application and a plan for getting your child there from Aldergrove.
The facilities plan also lists alternative programmes for district referrals: Advance Alternate (grades 10-12, at ACSS), Connections (grades 11-12, at D.W. Poppy) and Vanguard Secondary (grades 8-12, 3825 244 Street). These details date from June 2024; confirm current intake and locations with SD35, because a family can’t simply choose them by living nearby. Browse the district’s programme finder.

StrongStart, preschool and childcare
StrongStart at Parkside Centennial is in room 124 at 3300 270 Street. It’s a parent-and-child drop-in for pre-school-age children, not a substitute for full-day childcare. The school’s StrongStart page gives sessions and first-visit instructions. Encompass Family Place also runs at Shortreed (604-856-1664).
These nearby facilities appear in Fraser Health’s licensed list printed 3 July 2026. A licence shows the facility’s category and location, not whether there’s a space for your child’s age:
| Facility | Address | Categories shown |
|---|---|---|
| Aldergrove Daycare Centre | 26770 29 Avenue | Group care (30 months to school age); school age |
| Curious Kids | 27233 29A Avenue | Infant/toddler, preschool, school age |

Family childcare homes are listed in Fraser Health’s directory too, and there’s more in our preschools and childcare guide. Wait-lists vary by provider; we couldn’t find an Aldergrove-wide count.
Walking to school
Homes near 32 Avenue and 270 Street are closest to Parkside, homes near 28 Avenue and 273 Street to Shortreed, and homes around 27 to 29 Avenue and 268 Street to Betty Gilbert and ACSS, which share a block with Aldergrove Athletic Park. That’s orientation, not a certified safe-route map. The Township lists completed traffic calming on 32 Avenue in front of Parkside. Walk the real route, including the crossings and the school entrance, at drop-off time. Rural families should ask the district about bus eligibility before choosing a property.
After high school
The University of the Fraser Valley’s main campus is in Abbotsford. ACSS and D.W. Poppy both list trades and career programmes; see trades training in Langley schools. Back to the Aldergrove overview, the town centre and parks.
