Start with the address, not the school. The usual public pathway from Murrayville is James Hill Elementary, then H.D. Stafford Middle, then Langley Secondary. Addresses on the eastern edge can instead go to Peterson Road Elementary and D.W. Poppy Secondary. The district’s school locator is the only thing that settles it, so put the exact address in before you buy or sign a lease.
Which school will my child attend?
The district’s catchment page has a locator and a map for each school. Two cautions. First, the old map PDFs carry different dates (James Hill’s is from June 2024, Peterson Road’s from 2014), so use the live locator rather than a printout. Second, “Upper” and “Lower” Murrayville aren’t school boundaries; James Hill’s catchment reaches past the community plan area. If the locator gives an unclear answer, call the district at 604-534-7891.
The schools
| School | Grades and address | Role | What we know |
|---|---|---|---|
| James Hill Elementary | K-5 · 22144 Old Yale Road | Core neighbourhood elementary. Opened 1995. | About 385 students, per the school’s December 2025 welcome. On-site daycare and preschool. |
| H.D. Stafford Middle | 6-8 · 20441 Grade Crescent (Langley City) | Middle school for James Hill | The district’s June 2024 facilities plan expected two portables for September 2024. Ask for current numbers. |
| Langley Secondary | 9-12 · 21405 56 Avenue | Secondary pathway | A 300-seat, 12-classroom addition opened September 2026. Course guide lists academic, arts and career options, including AP Art. |
| Peterson Road Elementary | K-7 · 23422 47 Avenue | Eastern-edge catchment | June 2024 plan described childcare in two classrooms and adequate capacity. |
| D.W. Poppy Secondary | 8-12 · 23752 52 Avenue | Follows Peterson Road | Regular catchment school, not Murrayville-wide |
| Langley Fundamental Elementary | K-5 · 21789 50 Avenue | District choice programme | Seven portables in the June 2024 plan |
| Langley Fundamental Middle/Secondary | 6-12 · 21250 42 Avenue | Continues the fundamental programme | Four portables in the June 2024 plan |
| Langley Education Centre | Senior secondary and adult · 21405A 56 Avenue | Continuing education | Confirm course eligibility with the school |
| Langley Online | Online learning · listed at 21405A 56 Avenue | Provincial online option | Confirm current grades and intake directly |
The portable counts above are from June 2024, which is old enough that we won’t call them current. We couldn’t find 2026 enrolment and capacity figures for each school, and we didn’t find a new Murrayville elementary school or a Murrayville-specific boundary review in progress. If a school’s size matters to you, ask the district for its current enrolment, operating capacity and portables.
Choice programmes follow an application, not an address. Langley Fundamental is a district choice programme. The 2027 application window ran from October 5 to 26, 2026 and has closed, so ask the district about wait lists and check its choice page for the next intake. Our school district page explains the process, and early and late French immersion are at schools outside Murrayville (see our French immersion guide).
Walking to school
James Hill sits in the southern residential area, so a home beside its park has a very different school run from one near the hospital or out on the semi-rural fringe. Stafford is in Langley City, so living next to James Hill doesn’t keep every later year inside the same walkable pocket either. The Township has documented traffic-calming work on 50 Avenue near Langley Fundamental and on 47 Avenue near Peterson Road. We found no school-route audit for Murrayville, so walk the real route, especially any crossing of 216 Street, Fraser Highway or Old Yale Road. Traffic or street-design concerns go to Township Engineering at 604-533-6006.

Preschool, childcare and StrongStart
James Hill’s school page confirms on-site daycare and preschool, and Nurturing Hearts Montessori advertises preschool and school-age programmes there. Wonder Years at 4748 222 Street advertises infant and toddler care and takes part in the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative. Brave Spaces Early Learning Commons is listed at SouthRidge Fellowship, 22756 48 Avenue. A provider’s listing tells you what it offers, not whether there is a vacancy, so look the exact facility up in Fraser Health’s licensed-childcare directory and its inspection records, then ask about waitlists. We couldn’t confirm a $10-a-day site in Murrayville; check the provincial list.
James Hill is not on the district’s 2026-27 StrongStart list, so ignore any older brochure. Douglas Park (5409 206 Street) and Simonds (20190 48 Avenue), both in Langley City, run weekday 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. sessions. More in our preschools and childcare guide.
Test scores and rankings
The BC Ministry publishes a report for every school (follow the links from the SD35 school directory), and the Fraser Institute runs its own report-card portal using its own method. Neither is a verdict on fit, special-education support or whether your child will get in. We don’t rank schools.
