The ordinary path for a child in the village is Fort Langley Elementary on Bartlett Street, then D.W. Poppy Secondary a short drive away. The school that confuses people is the one with the best location: Langley Fine Arts School sits on Trattle Street, but you get in by application, not by living nearby. Everything here is the public system (School District 35). Our Langley-wide schools guide explains registration, and the district page covers the board.
Which school will my child attend?
| School | Grades and address | Programs | Catchment and entry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fort Langley Elementary | K-7, 8877 Bartlett Street | Regular program; LEAP (Langley Environmental Awareness Program) | Regular catchment covers the village and much of the rural east. LEAP is by application. |
| D.W. Poppy Secondary | 8-12, 23752 52 Avenue | Regular secondary education | The district map names it as the catchment secondary for the village. No middle school in between. |
| Langley Fine Arts School | K-12, 9096 Trattle Street | Arts-focused public school; the Chief Sepass Theatre is on site | District school of choice. Proximity doesn’t guarantee a place. |
Langley Fine Arts is in the village, but kids from across the district apply to it. A Bartlett Street address helps with the elementary-school walk and does nothing for fine-arts admission.
How do I check my address?
Use the district’s catchment maps and school locator with the exact civic address, and do it before you buy or sign a lease. This matters for “Fort Langley” rural addresses: Fort Langley Elementary’s mapped catchment stretches well beyond the village, which doesn’t make those homes walkable to school or to a bus. The Fort Langley Elementary catchment PDF the district links is dated May 2014, so treat the locator as the answer, and if the two disagree, ask SD35.
Before you buy near a school: confirm the catchment with SD35 in writing. Catchments can change, and the district's current 2027/28 boundary changes affect the Willoughby Slope area, not Fort Langley.
How full are the schools?
The newest figures we found come from the district’s June 2024 long-range facilities plan, which uses 2023 counts. They are more than two years old, so use them as a sketch and ask the school for this year’s numbers.
- Fort Langley Elementary: 298 pupils in 2023. The plan described enrolment as below capacity and noted a separate childcare portable.
- D.W. Poppy: capacity 1,125, with 63% of it used in 2023, and one portable used by BCIT.
- Langley Fine Arts: 807 pupils in 2023, with eight portables: six for secondary classes and two for childcare.
We found no new Fort Langley public school, funded expansion or Fort Langley catchment change in the district’s plans.
Programs of choice and French immersion
- LEAP. A K-7 application program at Fort Langley Elementary with outdoor and place-based learning. The district’s approved 2026-27 document lists a $220 annual fee and a hardship policy. Ask the school about entry at grades above Kindergarten.
- French immersion. Not at Fort Langley Elementary. The district lists early immersion at James Kennedy or Belmont, and late immersion at Alex Hope or Noel Booth, none of them in the village. These need an application.
- Registration status. The district’s 2027/28 choice application window opened on October 5, 2026 and has since closed. Don’t assume a window is open: ask SD35 about wait lists and the next intake (604-534-7891) or the application portal.
Walking to school
- Bartlett Street area: closest to Fort Langley Elementary. Fort Langley Elementary is among the school zones the Township covers in its school-zone speed bylaw, so watch posted signs.
- Trattle Street: the Township’s completed traffic-calming list includes Trattle at Langley Fine Arts.
- Bedford Landing: the village schools are south of the CN tracks, so the route to school includes a railway crossing. Walk it with your child, at school-run time, before you enrol. The riverside trail is not a dependable school route while the Salmon River dike work closes parts of it in 2026.
- 88 Avenue: the existing corridor has about a 1.2 m north-side asphalt walkway and a south shoulder. A separated path from Wright Street to Glover Road (about 580 m) has been through public engagement and is heading to design, with no opening date.
- Rural addresses and Poppy: plan for a bus or a drive; don’t assume a village-style walk.
Independent schools nearby
The King’s School, 21783 76B Avenue, is an independent Christian school from preschool to Grade 12 outside the village. Its own 2026/27 page mentions some spaces and possible wait pools, and it carries no public-school catchment rights. More options are on our independent schools page.
Preschool, StrongStart and childcare
Fraser Health’s licensing list (printed July 2026) shows these in the village. A licence doesn’t mean there is a space.
| Provider | Address | Listed as |
|---|---|---|
| Creative Nest Academy | 103-9103 Glover Road | 30 months to school age |
| Pathway Montessori | 9025 Glover Road | Licensed childcare |
| Wind and Tide Preschool | 8870 Glover Road | Preschool |
| Fort Langley Learning Centre | 8877 Bartlett Street (at the elementary school) | Childcare and school-age care |
| Taylin Childcare | 9160 Church Street | Preschool-age and school-age care |
Fort Langley Learning Centre is a $10-a-day site, and its January 2026 fee schedule lists $200 a month for five-day attendance. Its dated notice says its waitlist closed on August 19, 2026, so ask about other operators early. More options are on our preschools and childcare page.
StrongStart drop-ins (a parent or caregiver stays): we couldn’t confirm one in the village. West Langley Elementary, 9403 212 Street, runs one, but its posted schedule still says 2025/26, so call 604-888-6444 for current sessions.
What about school quality?
We don’t rank schools. The BC Ministry of Education publishes school-specific reports for Fort Langley Elementary, D.W. Poppy and Langley Fine Arts. The Fraser Institute publishes its own report cards using its own method; read that method before treating a single score as a full picture of a school.
After high school
Trinity Western University (22500 University Drive) and Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Langley campus (20901 Langley Bypass) are both in Langley. See Trinity Western and KPU Langley.
