Walnut Grove’s parks are mostly school-edge sports fields, ravine trails and small neighbourhood playgrounds, with the community centre and its big pool at the middle of it all. One practical warning before you head out: as of late October 2026 the baseball fields and some paths at Walnut Grove Community Park are closed while the Township renews them, and the restrooms at West Langley Park are closed too.
The parks, one by one
Washrooms, spray parks and construction closures change, so check the Township’s closures page the day you go. Features below come from the Township’s facility records.
| Park | Where | What’s there |
|---|---|---|
| Walnut Grove Community Park | 89 Avenue and Walnut Grove Drive | Sports fields, tennis, skate park, playground, spray park, picnic shelter, community garden, washrooms. Baseball fields and some paths closed for construction |
| Alex Hope Park | 85 Avenue and 212 Street | Ball and soccer fields, playground, trails, washrooms and parking. A new reservoir is being designed here |
| Dorothy Peacock Park | 91 Avenue and 204 Street | Ball and soccer areas, basketball, playground, trails, water and washrooms |
| McClughan Park | 91 Avenue and 206 Street | Ball and soccer fields, tennis and pickleball, playground, picnic space, community garden, trails, washrooms |
| James Kennedy Park | 91 Avenue and 212 Street | Grass soccer field, trails and washrooms beside the school |
| West Langley Park | 94 Avenue and 208 Street | Ball fields, playground, courts, meeting and concession buildings, parking. Restroom closure posted. Not the same as West Langley Elementary |
| Topham Park | 9199 216 Street (school access at 21555 91 Avenue) | Ball fields used by North Langley Diamond Sports |
| Forest Hills Park | 86A Avenue and 214 Street | Forest trails, playground, tennis and pickleball, washrooms |
| Telegraph Trail Park | 94A Avenue and 212A Street | Grass and all-weather play areas, forest trails |
| Holmstead Park | 92 Avenue and 213 Street area | Neighbourhood green space and playground; use the park map for entrances |
| Discovery Town Park | 8699 206 Street | Neighbourhood park; check the play equipment when you visit |
| Derby Hills Park | 20501 98 Avenue | Neighbourhood park north of 96 Avenue |
| Walnut Grove off-leash park | 9550 213 Street | Designated off-leash area. It doesn’t make nearby trails off-leash |
| Hope Redwoods Natural Area | 21800 block of 96 Avenue | Forest, creek and public trails; use the designated access |
| Yeomans Heritage Parkette | 96 Avenue and 208 Street | Small heritage plaza at the old Walnut Grove corner |
One more to know about, but not to go looking for: the East Munday creek corridor. We could not confirm a currently open public entrance, and the Township’s capital plans note creek-slope and pedestrian-bridge repairs, so follow barriers and signs rather than informal paths.
More on playgrounds, fields and courts across Langley: playgrounds, sports fields, skate and bike parks and pickleball and tennis.
Walnut Grove Community Centre
This is the building most people mean when they say Walnut Grove has a pool. The community centre at 8889 Walnut Grove Drive has a 50 m pool, a leisure pool with a waterslide, 1 m and 3 m diving boards and a 5 m dive tower, plus a sauna, steam room, adult and family whirlpools, a fitness centre, gymnasium, preschool and multipurpose rooms. The Dean Drysdale Library, the branch for Walnut Grove, shares the address (604-882-0410).
Accessibility. The Township lists a portable aquatic lift for the main pool and adult hot tub, water wheelchairs, ramp access to the therapy pool, beach entry to the leisure pool and an adult change table. Call the centre about the specific equipment you need.
Hours and registration. Building hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, but pool, fitness and drop-in schedules differ, so use the schedule links on the Township’s page. Lessons and classes go through the Township’s recreation registration. We don’t have lesson waitlist lengths.
Planning for the future. In March 2026 the Township recorded a contract for a renewal business case on the centre. That is planning work. It doesn’t mean a replacement is funded, and we have no construction or opening date.
For ice, the separate Langley Sportsplex at 100-20165 91A Avenue lists four rinks and runs its own programs and bookings.
Walks and trails
- Houston Trail, Derby Reach Regional Park. A forest loop of about 4 km with rolling ground, starting at a trailhead near McKinnon Crescent and 104 Avenue. It isn’t a level wheelchair route. Follow Metro Vancouver’s map and posted uses. See our Derby Reach and Houston Trail pages.
- Forest Hills Park paths. A short forest walk from the park at 86A Avenue and 214 Street. We don’t have a measured loop length or an accessibility audit.
- The Walnut Grove trail network. It is a network of mapped segments, not one standard loop, with routes the Township names as the Yorkson Creek Greenway, Derby Hills Trail, West Langley Trail, Redwoods Trail and Langley Lane Greenway. The Township’s trail map is from 2015, so check closures before combining creek-side sections.
- Fort-to-Fort connection. Closed near the Salmon River Natural Area until mid-December 2026. Our Fort-to-Fort Trail page has the history and route; check the Township’s closure notice before planning a through-walk.
Metro Vancouver’s Derby Reach map separates public trails from conservation land. A green area on a map is not an invitation to enter it, and Langley Bog stays closed to the public. The same goes for private creek-side lots.
Clubs and activities
- North Langley Diamond Sports lists Walnut Grove-area ball diamonds; use its registration page for your child’s season and age group.
- Langley Flippers Swim Club runs its 2026-27 off-season maintenance program at the community centre; its main summer season is at Al Anderson Memorial Pool elsewhere in Langley. See swim clubs.
- North Langley Football Association serves children and youth, though practices may be at various fields, so confirm your assigned location.
Events
We could not confirm a large annual festival held specifically in Walnut Grove. The Township ran activities here during BC Youth Week, May 1 to 7, 2026, and the library and recreation calendars are the best place for dated programs. Fort Langley’s Cranberry Festival is in Fort Langley, not Walnut Grove. See our what’s on calendar.
What’s planned
- Baseball renewal at Walnut Grove Community Park is under way, which is why part of the park is fenced off.
- Broader park concepts, such as changes to parking, play and spray areas, are in a public engagement phase and none has a confirmed budget or schedule we can point to.
- Strawberry Hill reservoir at Alex Hope Park. In November 2025 council chose a larger rectangular reservoir along the 85 Avenue frontage and authorized detailed design, with tree removal and a change in the view from the street. We could not confirm construction timing. See Forest Hills.
