Getting Around Willoughby: Buses, Carvolth Exchange, Commutes, Traffic and Parking

Two or three bus routes run often, the 555 gets you to SkyTrain at Lougheed, SkyTrain itself reaches Langley in late 2029 on Fraser Highway, and 200 Street carries the heaviest traffic in the Township.

Willoughby is a car-friendly place with a good bus link at one end and an ordinary one at the other. If you live near 200 Street or Carvolth Exchange, the buses work well. If you live in the middle of a townhouse neighbourhood, you will probably drive at least some of the time.

Which buses serve Willoughby?

These gaps are approximate daytime departures from TransLink’s timetable that took effect on 7 September 2026, which we checked on 30 October 2026. Peaks vary by direction, and evenings are thinner.

Route Where it connects Weekday peak Weekday off-peak Weekends
501 200 Street, Carvolth, Surrey Central; south to Willowbrook and Langley Centre 10-15 min 15-20 min About 20 min
555 Carvolth Exchange to Lougheed Station (Highway 1 express) 7-10 min 20 min 30 min
595 208 Street and Town Centre, Carvolth, Maple Meadows; south to Langley Centre 30 min 30 min 30 min
388 Carvolth to 22nd Street Station 30 min 30 min No service
509 Carvolth and Walnut Grove to Surrey Central, peak direction 20-30 min None regular No service
562 Carvolth, Walnut Grove, Trinity Western, Langley Centre (an exchange link, not an interior Willoughby route) About 20 min About 20 min About 20 min Saturday, about 60 min Sunday
564 Southern edge: Willowbrook, 66 and 68 Avenue, 206 Street, Langley Centre 60 min 60 min 60 min

Route 595 can drop to hourly late in the evening. The fall 2026 change improved the 555 toward Carvolth to every 8 to 9 minutes from 4 to 6 p.m. on weekdays. That helps commuters heading home, but it does not give every Willoughby street a frequent bus.

BC Transit’s route 66 Fraser Valley Express also stops at Carvolth, heading east to Abbotsford and Chilliwack and west to Lougheed. Its April 2026 timetable showed roughly 20 to 30 minutes between buses at weekday peaks and 30 minutes midday, with longer gaps on weekends and at the edges of the day. Check the current timetable for your trip.

Carvolth Exchange and the park-and-ride

Carvolth Exchange is at 20255 86 Avenue. The park-and-ride has 679 spaces, including 15 for carpools, and costs $2 a day or $40 a month. It is open 4 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily as listed in October 2026. TransLink doesn’t allow overnight parking at its listed park-and-rides. Those are the published numbers, not a promise that there will be a space when you arrive.

Is there SkyTrain in Willoughby?

Not now. From Carvolth, the 555 takes you to Lougheed Town Centre Station. In the September 2026 timetable it is scheduled for 7:29 to 8:00 a.m. in the morning peak, which is 31 minutes on the bus, and 10:14 to 10:34 a.m. midday, which is 20. That excludes getting to Carvolth, waiting and the SkyTrain ride after.

Later: the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension follows Fraser Highway, with a Willowbrook station around 196 Street and a Langley City Centre station around 203 Street. A September 2026 provincial update said all eight stations were under construction, and the service target is late 2029. There is no station at Willoughby Town Centre, so for most Willoughby homes SkyTrain means a bus or a short drive south.

Further out, TransLink’s 2026 concept for bus rapid transit between Langley and Haney Place covers about 22 km and 13 stations. It still needs more funding and has no confirmed service date. The Township’s June 2026 Transit Corridor Plan plans for denser housing around future 200 Street transit hubs at Carvolth and at 84, 80, 76 and 72 Avenue.

How long does the commute take?

These are Google Maps estimates for a Friday 8 a.m. departure from 20678 Willoughby Town Centre Drive, checked 30 October 2026. They are modelled ranges for one starting point, excluding parking and the final walk. A home in Carvolth or Routley will differ.

Destination Distance Modelled range Route
Downtown Vancouver (Waterfront Station) 46.7 km 45-80 min Highway 1 west
Surrey Central Station 20.4 km 20-40 min Highway 1 west (a 104 Avenue alternative: 17.6 km, also 20-40 min)
Abbotsford City Hall 27.4 km 24-40 min Highway 1 east
Langley City Hall 5.5 km 8-14 min 208 Street

Other SkyTrain stations from the same start: King George was 21.5 km and 22 to 40 minutes, Gateway 21.0 km and 20 to 40, and Lougheed 26.9 km and 22 to 40. Shorter distance did not always mean a shorter predicted trip, so compare more than one station. The future Willowbrook and Langley City Centre station areas were 5.9 km (9 to 16 minutes) and 5.1 km (8 to 12 minutes) away on today’s roads. That says nothing about how easy station access or parking will be in 2029.

By transit, the Abbotsford run is worth a look: BC Transit’s 66 had a 6:40 to 7:02 a.m. trip from Carvolth to Highstreet in April 2026, 22 minutes aboard. Highstreet is not Abbotsford’s civic centre. Door-to-door transit times from your address will be longer than any of these segments, so plan the real trip on a weekday morning and again for the evening return.

Roads, traffic and construction

The Township’s November 2024 Mobility Snapshot put 200 Street between 72 and 96 Avenue at 45,000 to 50,000 vehicles a day, the busiest corridor in that study. The parallel 208 and 216 Street corridors were at 10,000 to 20,000 a day, and the afternoon peak was the more widespread congestion period. Those are study figures, not 2026 counts, and they come from before the work in the table below.

Road or project Status (as of 30 October 2026) What it means
208 Street, 64 to 76 Avenue (phases 1 and 2) Complete July 2026; $56.9 million combined New roadway, cycling and walking links are done
208 Street, 76 Avenue to the 8100 block (phase 3) Roadwork complete August 2026; landscaping expected in autumn 2026 Finishing work may still show up
208 Street, 8100 block to 84 Avenue (phase 4) August 2026 update: median and utility work complete; overall completion not confirmed Check current impacts if you drive or walk the northern stretch
80 Avenue, 204 to 212 Street Complete July 2026; $10.5 million A better east-west link between Town Centre, schools and eastern Willoughby
200 Street at Highway 1 Existing 200/202 Street interchange access Highway access is close, but the arterial part of the trip is still busy
216 Street interchange Opened September 2020 An existing eastern Highway 1 access, not a proposal
216 Street Complete Street, 88 to 96 Avenue Planned; depends on funding and approvals; no firm date Different from the interchange and from roads inside Willoughby

Before you drive an unfamiliar stretch, check the Township's current closures on our Langley road closures page. The Township's Transportation and Mobility Strategy had a draft in April 2026 and engagement reporting in July 2026. Send road-safety feedback with the intersection, direction and time of day to [email protected] or 604-533-6006.

Walking and cycling

It depends heavily on the address. Walk Score showed 50 out of 100 for walking (49 for biking) at 20728 Willoughby Town Centre Drive but 80 and 70 at 2268 Willoughby Way, near the 64 Avenue shops, checked in October 2026. These are two street addresses, not scores for the whole area, so use them as a reminder to check your own.

At Town Centre, the nearest 595 stop is about 100 metres from that address, one to two minutes on foot, and groceries, the pharmacy and cafés are in the same cluster. “Near Town Centre” can still mean crossing a busy arterial or a much longer route, so walk it first.

The finished 208 Street and 80 Avenue projects add important links for walking and cycling, and greenways connect parks in Yorkson. The Township’s Yorkson trail map is dated November 2015, so it doesn’t prove every segment on it exists today. We can’t promise an unbroken protected bike route across all of Willoughby, and you shouldn’t assume one. Our cycling guide has the wider Langley picture.

Parking in Willoughby

The pressure on street parking is documented. The parking study presented to council in February 2026 drew on 1,474 public survey responses, with the survey closing in July 2025. Locations people called difficult included Willoughby-Willowbrook (110 mentions), 208A Street (28) and 216 Street (26). Those are counts of mentions, not shares of full stalls, and they don’t mean every street is short of parking.

The rules, checked October 2026:

  • The Township has no resident-only parking program. A public curb in front of a house is not reserved for that household.
  • The limit in one location is 72 hours, with shorter signed limits where posted.
  • Keep 1 metre clear of driveways and 5 metres from hydrants and community mailboxes.
  • An RV or trailer attached to a vehicle may be on the street for only 48 hours total per calendar year, and can’t be used as accommodation there.
  • Storing an RV or boat in the front driveway of a house in certain residential zones is allowed 1 April to 30 September with 1.6 metres of clearance. It isn’t a year-round right. Check your property’s zone and strata rules.
  • Owners of licensed secondary suites don’t have to give tenants off-street parking. If you rent a suite, get your parking in writing.

If you are viewing a townhouse, look at the number of stalls allocated, the real size of the garage (can your second vehicle actually fit?), visitor spaces, fire access and the legal curb space around the complex at 8 p.m. Ask for the strata’s parking rules. We aren’t saying any one complex is short; this is how to find out.

What is being done: the Township’s 2026 Parking Strategy is looking at changes to regulations and management. Study material mentions permit and pricing ideas, but until the Township announces an actual Willoughby scheme, don’t count on one. For a blocked driveway or a clear violation, use the Township’s complaint form or call 604-532-7551 ([email protected]).

Around schools, the Township has done traffic calming on Willoughby Way at Langley Meadows, on 83 Avenue at Lynn Fripps and at 78 Avenue and 204B Street by Donna Gabriel Robins. We haven’t seen published speed or cut-through counts for individual townhouse streets, so if one worries you, report the exact spot and time to the road-safety channel above.

On event nights at the Langley Events Centre, expect more cars around 200 Street and 80 Avenue. We have no published figure for how that affects any particular residential block, so go and look at one before you commit to a home facing the LEC.

Questions people ask about Willoughby

How do I get from Willoughby to SkyTrain?
Today, the 555 express runs from Carvolth Exchange (20255 86 Avenue) to Lougheed Town Centre Station. In the September 2026 timetable it is scheduled at about 31 minutes in the morning peak (7:29 to 8:00 a.m.) and 20 minutes midday. Route 501 connects to Surrey Central. Those times exclude your trip to Carvolth, waiting and the SkyTrain ride itself.
When will SkyTrain come to Langley?
The Surrey-Langley SkyTrain targets late 2029. A September 2026 provincial update said all eight stations were under construction. It runs along Fraser Highway, with a Willowbrook station around 196 Street and a Langley City Centre station around 203 Street. There is no station planned at Willoughby Town Centre.
How long is the drive from Willoughby to downtown Vancouver?
From Willoughby Town Centre to Waterfront Station is 46.7 km. Google Maps showed 45 to 80 minutes for a Friday 8 a.m. departure, checked 30 October 2026, via Highway 1 west. It is a modelled range for one origin, not a guaranteed commute, and excludes parking.
Does Willoughby Town Centre have frequent buses?
Not very. Route 595 serves the 208 Street corridor and Town Centre about every 30 minutes through the day, with longer gaps late in the evening. Route 501 along 200 Street is more frequent, every 10 to 15 minutes at weekday peaks.
Is the 208 Street widening finished?
Mostly. Phases 1 and 2 (64 to 76 Avenue, $56.9 million) were completed in July 2026, and phase 3 roadwork (76 Avenue to the 8100 block) in August 2026 with landscaping expected in autumn. Phase 4, from the 8100 block to 84 Avenue, had its median and utility work complete in an August 2026 update, but we could not confirm the whole project is done.
Is the 216 Street interchange open?
Yes, it opened in September 2020. The Township’s separate 216 Street Complete Street project, on 88 to 96 Avenue north of Highway 1, is still subject to funding and approvals, with no firm construction date we could find.
Can I park on the street in Willoughby overnight?
Yes, on public streets where it isn’t signed otherwise, but the space is not reserved for the house in front of it. The Township has no resident-only parking program. The limit in one location is 72 hours, and you must stay 1 metre from driveways and 5 metres from hydrants and community mailboxes.
How long can an RV or trailer stay on a Willoughby street?
An RV or attached trailer may be parked on a street for 48 hours total per calendar year and cannot be used as accommodation. On private property in the specified residential zones, the front-driveway exception runs 1 April to 30 September with 1.6 metres of clearance, so check your zone and strata rules.
