Parks, Trails and Recreation in Willoughby, Langley: Where to Go and What's Still Coming

Every Willoughby neighbourhood has a school-and-park cluster, Yorkson and Willoughby Community Parks are the big ones, and the area's own community centre with a pool is still only a plan.

Most Willoughby neighbourhoods were planned around a school and a park, so a playground or a ball field is usually a few blocks away. The two big ones are Yorkson Community Park and Willoughby Community Park. What Willoughby doesn’t have yet is its own community centre with a pool; that is still on the drawing board.

The parks

Features below come from the Township’s facility records. A feature that isn’t listed isn’t necessarily absent, and washroom and spray park hours change by season, so check before a long trip.

Park Where What’s there
Yorkson Community Park 84 Avenue and 206 Street; more access and parking from 82 Avenue Fields and walking areas. A new accessible playground, spray park and synthetic field were open by May 2026, with a 75-stall lot off 84 Avenue. Off-leash areas on the 82 Avenue side.

R.C. Garnett Park 70A Avenue and 202B Street Playground, ball and soccer areas, basketball and sports box, washrooms
Langley Meadows Park 64 Avenue and 198 Street Playground, tennis and pickleball, ball field, trails along a watercourse. The park record also mentions heritage Matheson House, but we haven’t seen public access to its interior
Goldenview Park 20300 86 Avenue Playground and spray play, plaza and amphitheatre, trails, washrooms
Donna Gabriel Robins Neighbourhood Park 20581 78 Avenue Playground, ball and soccer fields, trails, washrooms, next to the school
Josette Dandurand / Northeast Latimer Park 82 Avenue and 202 Street Playground, grass sports areas, wetland and trail features, washrooms, beside the school. Municipal records use both names for this cluster
Smith Athletic Park Near 76 Avenue and 208A Street Three synthetic fields opened September 2025; shelters and some seating done by May 2026. The indoor facility was still being built in the latest update we saw

More lists: playgrounds, off-leash dog parks, sports fields, skate and bike parks, and tennis and pickleball.

Short walks

For a quick outing, start at the signed entrances at Routley Park, Langley Meadows Park or Yorkson and follow the established paths. The Township’s Yorkson trail map names a Willoughby Trail and creek greenway links, but it dates from November 2015, so it’s no proof that every proposed link exists. We haven’t got measured loop lengths or accessibility ratings for any of these, and we won’t guess. Creeks have protected setbacks, and crossing private land to reach one isn’t an option. For longer outings, see our Langley hikes and walks.

Indoor recreation

Langley Events Centre, 7888 200 Street. The arena and fieldhouse complex also runs public sessions and youth stick-and-puck, and its three new ice arenas and two dry-floor arenas opened in September 2026. The LEC’s community programming page has times and equipment rules. Our Events Centre directory page and expansion page give the background.

Pools. The nearest established public pool is at Walnut Grove Community Centre, 8889 Walnut Grove Drive, which has a 50-metre pool, leisure and therapy amenities and a fitness area. Check the pool schedule, not just the building hours. See our Walnut Grove Community Centre page.

Clubs. Langley United Soccer Association publishes youth and adult programs (our page). Langley Rugby Club registers through its own site; its clubhouse is at 21280 Crush Crescent, east of the main Willoughby area (our page). Willoughby Community Hall, 20809 83 Avenue, is a volunteer-run community hall with booking details on its website. Langley Meadows Community Association runs from Langley Meadows Community School.

What’s planned

The Willoughby Community Centre is a plan, not a building. The Township's concept includes a 37.5-metre lap pool, leisure and hot pools, a gymnasium, fitness space, a library and multipurpose rooms. The project page gives no opening date, so don't choose a home because of it. Our community centre page tracks what the Township has published.

Other work still to come:

  • Yorkson Community Park South. Proposed works include an access lane off 80 and 82 Avenue, about 100 paved parking spaces, washrooms, play and picnic areas and oval fields. No completion date for the whole project was published.
  • Smith Athletic Park’s indoor facility, under construction in the May 2026 update.
  • A possible Willoughby Elementary replacement on about 2.4 hectares on 80 Avenue beside the Langley Tennis Centre, with community amenities. A February 2026 partnership is studying it; nothing is scheduled.

What’s on

The Willoughby Town Centre holds an annual community day, Willoughby Dayz, usually in early autumn, and a Halloween Stroll at Town Centre businesses in late October. Check the Town Centre’s own events page for each year’s dates. For games at the Events Centre and other happenings, see what’s on in Langley.

Questions people ask about Willoughby

Does Willoughby have its own community centre or pool?
Not yet. The Township’s planned Willoughby Community Centre would include a 37.5-metre lap pool, leisure and hot pools, a gym, fitness space, a library and multipurpose rooms, but it is in planning and the Township’s project page gives no opening date. The nearest established public pool is at Walnut Grove Community Centre, 8889 Walnut Grove Drive.
Which parks in Willoughby have a spray park?
Yorkson Community Park (84 Avenue and 206 Street) has one, alongside an accessible playground that the Township says opened by May 2026. Willoughby Community Park (7700 block of 202A Street) and Goldenview Park (20300 86 Avenue) both list spray play. Check seasonal hours before you go.
Is there an off-leash dog park in Willoughby?
Routley Park (19901 70 Avenue) has an off-leash area, and Yorkson Community Park has off-leash areas on its 82 Avenue side. Our off-leash guide covers other Langley parks.
What is open at the Langley Events Centre for the public?
The Events Centre (7888 200 Street) runs public activity sessions and youth stick-and-puck. Its three new ice arenas and two dry-floor arenas opened in September 2026. Use its community programming page for times, registration and equipment rules.
Where can kids play soccer or rugby near Willoughby?
Langley United Soccer Association publishes youth and adult programs, with Willoughby Community Park and Smith Athletic Park as important local fields. Langley Rugby Club registers through its own site and its clubhouse is at 21280 Crush Crescent, east of the core Willoughby area. An open field doesn’t guarantee a place on a team, so register early.
Are all the amenities at Smith Athletic Park open?
No. Three synthetic fields opened in September 2025, and shelters and some seating were finished by May 2026. The Township’s latest update that we saw showed the indoor facility still under construction, with no opening date.
Are there walking trails in Willoughby?
Yes, short ones inside the parks: Routley Park, Langley Meadows Park and Yorkson all have signed paths, including creek and wetland settings. The Township’s Yorkson trail map is from 2015, so don’t assume every route on it exists. Stay on signed public paths and out of creek protection areas.
