Schools in Langley City: Which School, Programs, Capacity and Childcare

Six elementary schools and a middle school sit inside Langley City; the two high schools it feeds are just outside it. Alice Brown is the exception, going K to 7 and then to Brookswood Secondary.

Every Langley City address belongs to a public elementary school, and the whole system is run by School District 35, not by the City. Six elementary schools and one middle school are inside the City boundary. The high schools are not: most City teens go to Langley Secondary in the Township’s Murrayville, and Alice Brown families go to Brookswood Secondary. Before you commit to a home for a particular school, put the address into the district’s school locator. The City’s six neighbourhood names are not school catchments.

Which school will my child attend?

Start with the district’s locator, then confirm by phone (604-534-7891) if the result is unclear or you live near an edge. The district’s June 2024 long-range plan records catchment changes affecting Blacklock, Douglas Park, Nicomekl and Simonds, including a Simonds catchment extension north of the river. So an old map or a neighbour’s memory may be out of date, and neither a listing’s “Eagle Heights” label nor the City’s neighbourhood map proves which school a home is in.

The common City pattern is elementary, then H.D. Stafford, then Langley Secondary. Alice Brown is the exception: it runs K to 7 and feeds Brookswood Secondary, which sits in a different part of the district. If you are renting or buying near 44 Avenue, check both.

Is there room? Capacity, portables and the new additions

There isn’t a single, current, published list of enrolment against capacity for these schools, so we won’t make one up. What we can date:

  • Nicomekl Elementary: a 200-seat addition opened in September 2025.
  • Langley Secondary: a 300-seat, 12-classroom addition opened in September 2026.
  • H.D. Stafford Middle: its own page says about 775 students in January 2026. The district’s June 2024 plan listed a capacity of 800 and two portables. Those figures are from different dates, so don’t treat them as today’s occupancy.
  • Elsewhere: the 2024 plan recorded no portables at Alice Brown and one instructional portable at Douglas Park, and noted that some portables at Blacklock were used for childcare and Indigenous-program space rather than ordinary classrooms. That plan is more than two years old.

For current numbers, ask the school or the district. We haven’t found a new City school with a confirmed construction date.

Choice programs

  • Montessori: Uplands Elementary, K to 6, in its own stream.
  • Fine arts: Blacklock Fine Arts Elementary.
  • Blended and online: U-Connect, at the Simonds campus, K to 12.
  • French immersion: the district lists Belmont and James Kennedy for early immersion and Alex Hope and Noel Booth for late; Brookswood Secondary carries the program into high school. All are outside the City. See French immersion in Langley.
  • Other district options: Langley Fundamental Elementary (K to 5, 21789 50 Avenue) and Langley Fundamental Middle/Secondary (6 to 12, 21250 42 Avenue), both in the Township, are choice schools. Admission rules vary, so read the district’s pages first.

Preschool, StrongStart and childcare

  • Douglas Recreation and Child Care Centre (20550 Douglas Crescent) reopened on 5 June 2026 with 75 licensed childcare spaces, run in partnership with the YMCA. Ask the operator about openings.
  • Cookie Monster Preschool, a City-run licensed preschool for ages three and four, is at the Douglas centre. Registration for 2026-27 is on the City’s preschool page.
  • StrongStart at Simonds (20190 48 Avenue) is free, runs weekday mornings, and children come with a parent or caregiver.
  • Fraser Health publishes a list of licensed childcare facilities. A licence is not a vacancy.

More options are on our preschools and childcare page.

Walking and cycling to school

The schools give you small walking clusters: Douglas Park school and park together, Blacklock beside City Park, Simonds at 48 Avenue, Alice Brown at 44 Avenue and Uplands at 207A Street. But a short distance on a map isn’t always a short walk, especially where a catchment crosses the river. Check the assigned school first, then walk the route at drop-off time. The City says the Langley Bypass improvements will make walking and cycling safer for Langley Secondary students. To report a missing sidewalk or a crossing problem, use the City’s service request portal and tell the school.

After high school

Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Langley campus is at 20901 Langley Bypass, inside the City (see KPU Langley); Trinity Western University is just over the boundary in the Township (see TWU).

School information and reports

The Ministry’s school reports give each school’s published data. Each school also has an Action Plan for Learning on the district site. The Fraser Institute publishes its own report cards using its own method; we don’t rank schools, and a report card should be read as one outside view alongside a school visit.

For the whole district, including registration steps, see our Langley-wide schools guide and the school district page. The neighbourhood guides (Douglas, Alice Brown and the others) say which school sits nearest, and the overview puts it all in context.

Questions people ask about Langley City

What high school do Langley City kids go to?
For most City addresses, the path is elementary school, then H.D. Stafford Middle (20441 Grade Crescent), then Langley Secondary (21405 56 Avenue, in the Township). Alice Brown Elementary is K to 7 and belongs to the Brookswood Secondary family (20902 37A Avenue). The district’s locator gives the official answer for an address.
Which school will my child attend?
Use the Langley School District’s school locator and catchment maps with the exact address, and call the district on 604-534-7891 if it is unclear. The City’s six neighbourhood names came from school boundaries around the year 2000 and don’t decide today’s catchments. The district has changed catchments around Blacklock, Douglas Park, Nicomekl and Simonds in recent years.
Are Langley City schools overcrowded?
We couldn’t find a current enrolment and capacity pair for every school. The best dated figures are H.D. Stafford’s own page (about 775 students in January 2026) and the district’s June 2024 facilities plan (capacity 800 and two portables). Since then Nicomekl gained 200 seats (September 2025) and Langley Secondary 300 seats (September 2026). Ask the district or the school for current numbers before you buy for a school.
Is there a Montessori school in Langley City?
Yes. Uplands Elementary (4471 207A Street) runs a neighbourhood program for K to 5 and a Montessori program for K to 6. They are separate streams, so living nearby doesn’t guarantee a Montessori place. Check the district’s admission requirements.
Is there French immersion in Langley City?
None of the City’s elementary schools is on the district’s list. Early immersion (starting in kindergarten) is at Belmont and James Kennedy, and late immersion (Grade 6) at Alex Hope and Noel Booth, all outside the City. Brookswood Secondary, which Alice Brown feeds, has a French immersion program. See our French immersion page.
Is there a fine arts school in Langley City?
Blacklock Fine Arts Elementary (5100 206 Street, K to 5) is the City’s arts-focused school, and it is in the Stafford and Langley Secondary family. Check the school for how the arts program is delivered and whether it depends on your catchment.
Where is free StrongStart in Langley City?
Simonds Elementary (20190 48 Avenue) hosts a StrongStart program, listed for 2026-27 as Monday to Friday, 9 to 11:30 a.m. It is free early learning for a child with a parent or caregiver, not unattended childcare. Check for school-day closures before you go.
Are there $10-a-day childcare centres in Langley City?
We could not confirm one from the province’s April 2026 list, because “Langley” entries on it include Township addresses. Check the provincial list for the centre’s actual address, and ask the operator about spaces and waitlists.

Last checked October 29, 2026. Things change fast in a growing area: confirm anything important (catchments, rents, bus times) with the official source linked. Spotted something out of date? Tell us.
